Literacy Fair - March 12, 2008

On March 12, 2008 St. Therese had their annual Literacy Fair. Students and their families from Preschool-Grade 3 were invited to come and spend a couple of hours traveling from booth to booth completing a project that related to a book. After they had visited every booth, they enjoyed an ice cream cone donated by Edy's Ice Cream. Each family was then given a bag with 8 new books to take home and keep. This event was made possible by donations from SCRIP, Cindy and Dan McAfee and the Velocity Grant through Verizon. Remember, if you switch to Verizon and mention the code 2606 St. Therese receives credit which helps support the Literacy Fair. Please call the school and leave a message with the office with your phone number and the month you switched so we will recieve credit. Thanks also to all of the people who volunteered to run the booths. Without your help this event would not be as successful as it was.

3rd Grade Play - Pecos Bill - Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Awesome is the best word I can think of to describe the third grade presentation of Pecos Bill. The students did an impressive job of memorizing the play. They had been studying tall tales in reading class. Homework was reading, reading, reading, and more reading of Pecos Bill. Never once did they complain. They enjoyed memorizing as well as performing. If you missed the presentation, I am sure there is a video floating around. The students "put-on" the play Wednesday, May 30 in the gym and parents, Kd, 1st, 2nd, and 6th grade came to watch. Everyone was excited. Well done 3rd grade!!!!

8th Grade Class Trip - Kelleys Island, Lake Erie, OH - Monday, May 29, 2007

On May 29th, the 8th grade went to Kelleys Island in Lake Erie, OH. They took a ferry to the island from Marblehead, OH. Upon arriving on the island, the students walked to the Kelleys Island State Park where they were met by a park ranger. He show the students the island's Glacial Grooves which were formed by a glacier scraping across the soft limestone. He then took them on a hike through the island forest to look at native species. The students spent time on the rocky shoreline looking at a rare biological ecosystem called alvars, which are organisms that only grow on rocks in particular environments.

After a picnic lunch along the shoreline, the students visited the Butterfly Kingdom to see butterflies in various stages of their life cycle. Then the students seperated into small groups to tour the island. Some rode bikes, others rode in golf carts, while others walked. They visited shops, ate ice cream, walked trails, and saw sights. The weather was beautiful. The students were complimented by many on the shop owners because of their good behavior. Thanks to all who donated to the fundraisers to allow us to go on such a great trip.
